World Tree Network

Support the commons

A gift builds a network a community can hold. It does not buy a platform you have to keep renting.

Who holds it

World Tree Network Foundation is fiscally sponsored by SOULAR, a registered 501(c)(3). The foundation is the steward. A company does not own the commons.

Patronage is a monthly gift. A one-time donation is welcome. There is no checkout on this site. The buttons open a letter to [email protected], and we route the gift through the sponsor.

What it pays for

Lightning Mesh: the software, the routers, and the installations. A Raspberry Pi 5 with an SSD when a house wants a disk that stays in the building. The identity and encryption work that has to remain free to use.

If we ever charge for a service, it has to pass a test. You can leave with your keys and your data, and stop paying, without asking permission. Rent is payment without exit.

Where the work is

Four pieces are far enough along to describe. Two others, DreamBall and Papyrus, are still experiments. They are not on this site.

  • Lightning Mesh

    Installed

Routers peering with no company in the middle. In at Embassy SF. More installations are starting in San Francisco and the East Bay.

  • IdentiKey

    Working

A key you mint yourself. The public site is identikey.io. Guilds, later, are how a house decides who may read a file.

  • Edgebox

    The disk

The box in the building. A Raspberry Pi 5 and an SSD first, mini-PCs later, open-source software already loaded. The repository is not public yet.

  • Recrypt

    Working

Share a file, and revoke that share later, without the server reading it. A library. Not what Embassy is running.

  • Mjolnir

    Building

Services on hardware you control. The code is public. The software is not finished.
